PARISH CLERK AND RESPONSIBLE FINANCIAL OFFICER: BOLTON-LE-SANDS

Bolton-le-Sands is a large village and civil parish of the City of Lancaster in Lancashire.  It has an active parish council with up to 10 councillors. 

The Parish Council is looking to appoint a Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer. The Clerk will be totally responsible for ensuring that the instructions of the council in connection with its function as a local authority are carried out.The successful applicant should have a good level of education, with good communication and excellent interpersonal skills, who can both listen well and demonstrate self-confidence in handling difficult situations as an ambassador for the Parish Council.

Candidates must be capable of working with councillors, the public, a wide range of outside bodies; sometimes in challenging situations. As well as knowledge of administration, taking minutes, basic accounting, be computer literate and able to work to deadlines, the ideal candidate will hold the Certificate in Local Council Administration qualification (CiLCA), or be working towards it. Candidates willing to start working towards this qualification upon accepting the post are also welcome. Knowledge of the local area would be an advantage.

The post is 16 hours per week, mainly working from home.  The Parish Clerk attends Parish Council meetings, which are held monthly (except for August) on the first Monday of each month, commencing at 7.00pm at the Old Boys Grammar School, Bolton-le-Sands. The Parish Clerk attends other meetings as required. Hours of work will be flexible and subject to changing workload and the parish council meetings’ schedule.

The post is currently on Scale Point 7 of the NALC scales (£12.63 per hour); a qualified clerk would be paid at a higher level. The role is open for an immediate start following interviews and selection by the Parish Council.
