Vacancy: Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer
Bolton-le-Sands Parish Council is seeking an organised, approachable and confident person to become its Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer.
This varied role is central to the effective running of the Council. The successful applicant will manage the Council’s administration and finances, prepare agendas and minutes, advise councillors, implement Council decisions and act as a key contact for residents, contractors and other public bodies.
- Hours: Up to 16 hours per week
- Salary: NALC/NJC scale points 15-28, depending on qualifications and experience
- Location: Primarily home-based, with attendance in the parish as required
- Meetings: Normally at 7.00pm on the first Tuesday of every month, including August
- Closing date: Sunday 13th September 2026
About the role
The main responsibilities include:
- Preparing agendas, reports and accurate meeting minutes
- Managing the Council’s accounts, budgets, payments, VAT and audit requirements
- Ensuring the Council follows relevant legislation and procedures
- Implementing and following up Council decisions
- Managing correspondence and public enquiries
- Maintaining Council policies, records and governance documents
- Liaising with contractors, councils, police and community organisations
- Updating the Council’s website and public information
- Supporting local projects and administering the Council’s CCTV arrangements
You should have strong administrative, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. You will also need good numeracy, confidence using Microsoft Word, Excel, email and online systems, and the ability to remain impartial and professional when dealing with sensitive or contentious matters.
Previous parish council or local government experience would be helpful but is not essential. Applicants with suitable transferable skills and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
You should either hold the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) or be willing to work towards it. The Council will support relevant training and professional development.
