POSITION: TOWN CLERK AND RESPONSIBLE FINANCIAL OFFICER                                                                             

HOURS: 20-25 PER WEEK (to be agreed)

SALARY GRADE: SCP 24-28 (£17.79-£19.96 per hour) 

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and play a vital role in shaping the future of a Town through the development of a newly established enthusiastic Town Council.

The home-based position is exciting, interesting and challenging offering opportunities for professional development in the short and long term if the proposed devolution of certain councils take place.

Lytham is a beautiful, vibrant coastal town with a welcoming community and special heritage. Situated in the Ribble Valley it offers easy access to the Lake District, Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales. There are numerous organisations covering nearly every human interest with whom you will liaise, coffee shops, bars and restaurants.

We propose the necessary hours as 20 – 25 per week but the appointee needs to be flexible, to be able to offer overtime if required, able to attend evening meetings and adaptable if new situations arise.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To assist the newly formed Town Council in developing policies, procedures, and processes 
  • Oversee financial management, including budgets reports and audits.
  • Coordinate Town Council meeting and committee meetings including agenda preparation and minutes.
  • Work positively and constructively with the Town Council members (10) the principal authorities (Fylde Borough Council and Lancaster County Council) and their Councillors and Officers, the public external partners and the Community.  
  • Organise and support community engagement initiatives and help support the Town Council in Events and Community celebrations.
  • Ensure compliance with Legal and Statutory requirements

The Town Council would like to appoint a clerk as soon as we are able on a permanent basis but will consider applications for interim candidates.
