News Round-up - Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner - Friday 11th March
11th of March, 2022
During these regular news round-ups I always aim to to provide an overview of just some of the work I'm doing as I take the fight to criminals and work with Constabulary to deliver my Police and Crime Plan priorities. One of the important ways Lancashire Constabulary is supporting the delivery of my priorities and delivering this proactive approach is through Operation Vanquish. This month's dedicated week of action has seen targeting dangerous drivers being the focus, with around 60 people arrested for drink or drug driving offences, over 200 dealt with for speeding and several stolen vehicles returned to their owners amongst a range of other successful action. I joined officers on enforcement activity during the week and witnessed arrests for dangerous driving. During Operation Vanquish's focused activity around dangerous driving officers: - Arrested 60 people for drink or drug driving, You can read more on Operation Vanquish below. Whilst the force plays a critical role in tackling crime and making sure we stop people becoming victims, engaging with stakeholders, partners and the general public on a wider basis is key to addressing concerns and delivering my priorities. An example of this is my support for the national 'Enough' campaign, aimed at tacking violence against women and girls. This backs the priorities in my Police and Crime Plan and is an example where awareness and enforcement, such as through the 40 new officers dedicated to tackling rape and sexual violence, can both play a part in delivering positive change. This engagement with communities on a local level is also something that myself and my Deputy Andy Pratt MBE are focusing on, and I attended a local PACT meeting in Blackpool to hear concerns and how we can all work together to make their area safer. I will be making more announcements in the near future about how I will support this type of work that allows stakeholders to make their areas safer and deter crime.
