Civility & Respect Newsletter February 2022

12th of February, 2022

‘’Good progress is being made with the Civility and Respect project.

The cross -organisational workstream teams have been formed and are working hard to analyse some of the causes of bullying and harassment in our sector and to identify some tools which will minimise opportunities for poor behaviour and provide support where it does happen.

One of the areas we have identified is that the LGA (Local Government Association) Model Code of Conduct 2020 (updated May 2021), which was supported by both SLCC (Society of Local Council Clerks), and NALC has not yet been widely adopted. The model code has now been endorsed by the project team and you can find the code and the supporting guidance notes on the Civility and Respect page of our website. We look out for the project updates in the next edition of NALC's LCR magazine and SLCC's The Clerk magazine.

The February newsletter includes updates on:

·         Civility and Respect Project progress

·         Code of Conduct

·         Early day motion for sanctions

·         Definition of civility

·         Handling online abuse

·         Social media rules of engagement’’
